Too Easy!

Hi, fantastic app, but I'm now finding it waay too easy. Today I managed to score 1008 all out in a 50 over match - this was after 47.3 overs (I was hoping for an Easter Egg at 1000!). My opener got 393! Leg slide flicks are too easy to achieve and I can get 4 almost every ball.

Can I suggest you look at improving the field placements as I can just milk the leg side - even with 4 or 5 players in there. There are players behind the wicket and in areas where I've never hit the ball who never seem to move.

Keep up the good work!

Matt

Version 1.02 now live - Free and Pro

Hi Everyone,

Apple have cleared version 1.02 for release.

Update details....

Wides - due to popular demand!

AI updates - batsmen now more difficult to bowl out on straight/swing deliveries. Some tweaks for AI batting against low totals.

Disappearing Fielders - these lazy guys should now be on the field full time - no matter what!

Running between wickets - you can now only do this if you are batting (already fixed in current Pro version).

Facebook logins - auto login now fixed so you don't need to re-enter your password (already fixed in the current Pro version).

Cheers,

Glenn

Great Great game and I am totally hooked

When I first bought it, it crashed a few times but it has settled down now and I love it cannot get enough of it. The 50 over game is great when you import the facebook friends, which makes you look at your friends in a different light.

Hope you are working on some new additions,( I see that `Apple are holding you back) such as keeping a record of games played, winning margins, highest scores in the game(s) etc, league table/ divisions, test match, the game is so extendable with so many options , which would make a even better than it already.

I would like to be able to run short runs, instead of just trying to hit fours and sixes. `the challengers can run ones and two threes and even fours, so why can't the champions do it, also.? That's unfair and can make a difference between winning and losing a game.

I have to get as many games in as possible when the wife is at work as she hates the applause.. I love it, can paly all day and not get bored.

Made the Staff Favourites list in Aus & a youtube clip that made me smile

Was wondering why the app starting moving up the charts in Aus, as sales there have been slow until yesterday...Just found out it is in the Staff Favourites, which sent downloads through the roof.

Also, I found a great little clip @ YouTube by a little guy who really likes the game - this made my day :)

Development Update 2nd September

Hi Everyone,

Still waiting on approval for Apple for the the latest release - I am sure it can't be too far away. The initial release took 3 weeks, so the wait should be over soon.

While we are waiting on that, I've been working on Local Multiplayer for Pro. I was able to bowl balls at my first human a couple of nights ago - and was promptly smashed all around the ground! Regardless of the result - it is good fun playing against a friend. Still plenty of work to do, but it is bearing fruit.

I saw some reviews by some familiar names on the iTunes store - thanks for that - you know who you are :)

I'll put up some screenshots of the multiplayer screens in the next week if you like.

Cheers,

Glenn

Wicket every time bug and other stuff

Hi Glenn,

Flick Cricket has been my go to game for a week now, and I'm really enjoying it.

Now to my points!

First I noticed that you were looking for a guy that said he'd bowled out the AI for 0. Well I'm not him, but I have done it, and I know why. (I've got a cscreenshot of the summary screen if you need it.)

It happens with a combination of bowling a straight delivery (with spin, swing, or pace) and then starting you flick at the very top of the screen over 'your' wicket. You should hear the sound of the batsmen playing a shot. This now gives you a free shy at the stumps that will result in a wicket every time.

It doesn't seem to work with swinging or cutting deliveries.

Now for a few suggestions, if I may.

First, what I think would work very well is a batting centred tournament mode (like the Stick Cricket flash game). One where you start of against a side like bangladesh with a 10 over target of 50... moving up to Pakistan with a target of 200 or something. With incrementally increasing difficulty. Or something along those lines.

It would be good to have a high score mode. Just 5, 10, 15, 20 etc overs to score as many runs as you possibly can. It'd be great with online leaderboards as well as local.

On another point it would be nice to have more variety of AI bowler and batsmen difficulty, as there isn't much challenge once you get past a certain point.

Overall, as you can probably tell, I think batting is much more fun the bowling. The bowling is a bit too simplistic to be any fun. It loses a lot of the real skill of bowling especially, as mentioned elsewhere, without length being in the equation.

I'm against meters and three click systems too... but the iPhone should offer enough fun ways to make something usable. One idea would be to flip the view point to look at the wicket from a more 3d perspective from the bowlers end.

Then I think it would be good if you could draw the line you want the delivery to take. (See DrawRace for what I mean). The faster you draw the line the faster the delivery - but you lose accuracy, and vice versa. You could then factor in the length too, where the line finishes.

Or you could harness the accelerometer to apply swing as you flick. A flick of the finger for pace, a flick of the wrist to add swing or spin.

On another note... something else that would be nice is to be able save Facebook teams so they don't randomly change. Then it would be nice to have stats for every player that are tracked over time, so you can see it over a long period. This would also be great to feeback into Facebook and generate interest.

Right I'll leave you alone now... hopefully if nothing else the bowling bug will be useful!

Seriously, though, this game has so much potential to be great, so I hope you will continue to develop and update it frequently!

Comments / Feedback

Firstly let me make it clear I think the game as it is, is excellent and if I seem critical, it's constructive rather than complaining!

OK :)

I've got the pro version, and while I can edit the teams, but I can't edit the team names. Or at least I can't see how to. Is this possible?

The Fielder AI sometimes leaves a bit to be desired - wicket keeper and three others chasing a ball that's trundling to the boundary for example, and often if I hit the ball straight, the long off and long on run in, and the ball's past them for four before they 'turn'.

Also when the AI moves it's field, there are often two or three fielders in the same place (or very very close to each other).

Bowling wise, I'm not sure how I'm getting the results that I am, is the 'flick' simply a device to get the ball into play - and aim it? Or do quicker 'flicks' result in quicker deliveries, swinging 'flicks' a bigger swing? Is it possible to bowl short / full / yorkers etc?

If not, they'd be a great addition if it's possible.

I also think a rythm / double tap / flick then tap type delivery method would mean one had to learn and practice a technique in order to bowl well. I'm thinking of a golf type "swing-meter", but I've seen those on other cricket games and once mastered they're easy to 'cheat'.

Maybe a swing meter that changes length randomly, so you can't pre-empt it?

I'm also a bit confused with the red marking on the pitch when batting. Initially I thought it was an extension of the "Stroke Length" gauge - and if I swiped the shot into that zone, it'd be a lofted shot. But now I'm not sure. I've hit sixes with short stroke-shots, and I've hit fours stroking into the red zone and making it flash.

Again I'm thinking that a batting guage might be an idea, maybe if the stroke fills the guage it gets full value for the speed / timing and goes for six. If it's over the guage then it's mis-timed up in the air, edged, blocked etc. If it's short of the end of the guage, then maybe it's a push that goes a shorter distance or it's a block.

Maybe the batting display could change as the ball is bowled to determine that you can only play certain shots (some of the arrows could grey out, that kind of thing) - to prevent straight driving a bouncer back over a quick bowler's head, and add a little more technique to the batting.

If that detracts too much from the 'spirit' of the flicking stroke, and I can see that it might, then maybe a bit more of a shot guide would be handy - sometimes I think I've played the same kind of shot that I hit for six earlier, but I completely miss it - should I be starting the flick at the stumps, and following through the line of the ball, or is the stroke measured from the ball onwards?

I'd also like to see the bowler's icon having a longer run-up when the swingers and quicks are bowling and maybe make the fielders a little quicker around the pitch (or slow the ball down a little - unless it's a PERFECT shot).

Anyway, I think that's all I can remember, I'll keep thinking though!

And again, even as it is, it's excellent.

Maybe - as long as he gets rid of the damn red arrow (iOS 4 in-joke there)

I guess - He's an OK guy, already punished by Australia's poor form against England and Pakistan
